Summary: IN-KY WSC continues response to ongoing flooding in Indiana
The Indianapolis office of the Indiana-Kentucky Water Science Center (INKY WSC) is in the sixth day of flood response. The lower Patoka River has been in major category flooding since Wednesday evening and is experiencing backwater conditions from the rising Wabash River. Larger basins like the Wabash and White Rivers are now in moderate category flooding. Sustained rainfall over a large portion of the state began yesterday and will continue throughout the day. Some areas have seen over 2 inches in the past 24 hours while the 7 day total is up to 12 inches for the southern portion of the state.
The IN-KY WSC has 6 crews (13 people) out making discharge measurements and verifying gages in affected areas of the state. 3 gages stopped transmitting overnight and crews are currently working to get them operational again. Communication has been ongoing with the National Weather Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers throughout the event.
