PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MO) Flooding continuing in Missouri

Summary: Large river flooding continuing in Missouri

Flooding within the Gasconade and Meramec Basin continuing today. Major flooding along portions of the lower main stem Missouri River and Mississippi River continuing.

Extent of flooding more isolated to larger basins, total of 2 fatalities have occurred over this event along with 5 related injuries. Over 3300 power outages and several hundred evacuations have occurred over this event along with many water rescues. MoDOT has experienced a total of 460 road closures throughout the state

Many streamgage peaks revealing preliminary 1% and 0.2% AEP estimates. Gages in the lower Meramec River are reaching near record levels, very similar to flooding in December 2015. Gages in the lower Mississippi River main stem approaching record levels with the strong potential for additional overflow measurements at previously unrepaired levee breaches that occurred back in 2015.

Measurements continuing in the anticipated "near" or "at" record level Meramec basin today, special measurements continuing for USACE SWL to define spill curves for Clearwater Lake and other measurements made along the Meramec to assess attenuation/storage/backwater-affected flows.

A total of 9 gages have been impacted by floodwaters, all by (2) gages are back online and transmitting. Peak verifications (HWM's and leveling) complete at nearly 20 gages severely impacted by floodwaters.

Stakeholder and media engagement still occurring, more today along the Meramec Basin and the main stem Mississippi.
