PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MO) Flooding Continuing in Missouri

Summary: Flooding along large rivers continuing in central and eastern Missouri.

Large drainage basin flooding continuing to rise and set record (or near record) crests in the Gasconade, Bourbeuse, Meramec, and Lower Mississippi basins.

Preliminary comparisons identify many flood peaks near 1% AEP with some more moderate drainage area flooding at gage locations identified near 0.2% AEP. Over 100 evacuations and water rescues have been performed. Several fatalities have occurred during flooding. Traffic along a major interstate (I-44) is continuing to be rerouted due to floodwaters (previously from the Gasconade) and currently from the Meramec River.

Over 30 gages have experienced period of record peaks with a total of 9 gages impacted and damaged to some degree by floodwaters. About 1/2 of these gages have had function restored.

HWM collection and flow measurements continuing among 10 crews (staff of 21).

Special measurements underway to aid in defining spill curves for USACE. Special measurements being made to evaluate storage/attenuation for project site(s) as well.

Media and stakeholder interaction has been and continues to be frequent.
