PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (AR) Arkansas Flooding Continued

Summary: Heavy rains throughout Saturday night into Sunday morning cover most of Arkansas.

Precipitation totals were exceeding 6 inches overnight throughout the state. Storms have left an estimated 70,000 residents without power in central Arkansas. Rain is exiting the state to the east and expected to be clear tomorrow.

The Arkansas, Illinois, Buffalo, Kings and White river basins are primarily affected during the event. So far ten gages exceeded NWS flood stage.

Two streamgages have been damaged and two were destroyed.

Currently 7 USGS crews(15 technicians) from offices in the Lower Mississippi Gulf are in the process of measuring discharges in Northern and Western Arkansas. Additionally there are 3 crews (5 technicians) storm sampling in Central Arkansas. Monday crews will be transitioning to measure larger rivers in Arkansas. Contact with the National Weather Service and the US Army Corps of Engineers has been maintained.
