Summary: USGS personnel deployed to respond to flooding in Southern Illinois.
Flooding is occurring in Southern Illinois as a result of rain that fell in the last 48 hours. Statewide rainfall totals are two inches and above, with approximately seven inches of rain accumulating in Southern Illinois to date.
Approximately 30 USGS streamgages are above the National Weather Service (NWS) floodstage. One USGS crew of two people has been deployed to make discharge measurements and ensure proper streamgage operation in Southern Illinois. Additional crews are expected to be deployed tomorrow as streams continue to rise. All USGS streamgages in the flooded areas appear to be functioning properly.
Communication will be made with the NWS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other emergency managers as needed.
