Summary: Northwest Arkansas Flooding
Heavy rains fell Tuesday night into Wednesday in Arkansas. Northwest Arkansas was impacted the most due to the duration of this event and previous rains from the weekend. Four crews spent most of the day and night measuring and sampling with some gages reporting over 3.5 plus inches in 12 hours. Rainfall totals since Friday were over 8 inches.
The Arkansas and White River basins are the most impacted by this event. Crews made 9 high flow measurements and 6 storm samples on Wednesday. 2 of the 9 measurements were the highest made at the site.
One gage was damaged during this event and will be repaired today.
We are anticipating flood conditions in the Northwest Arkansas beginning tomorrow and continuing through the weekend. Expected rainfall amounts are 9.5 inches. It looks like flooding in will begin to affect central Arkansas on Saturday and continue through the middle of next week.
Contact with the National Weather Service and Army Corps of Engineers has been made.
