PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MS) Central Mississippi Flooding

Summary: Heavy rains in central Mississippi have caused widespread flooding

Heavy rains fell overnight in central Mississippi with some gages reporting over 7 inches in 12 hours which has caused widespread localized flooding on smaller streams.

Measurement crews have been dispatched to record this event and this effort will likely continue most of the week as the impact of the rains move to the larger rivers, including the Pearl and Big Black Rivers

Flood coordination calls with the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, Corps of Engineers, and the National Weather Service will likely begin today concerning the forecast for the Pearl above and below the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
