Summary: USGS high-water measurements

Flooding is occurring in the Allegheny and Genesee River basins of western New York as a result of 1-1.5 inches of rain and snowmelt on frozen ground during the past 24 hours. Six USGS streamgages reached the NWS minor flood category, although only two streamgages remain above NWS flood stage by Friday afternoon. Minor flooding due to an ice jam is also occurring in northeastern New York on the East Br Ausable River at Au Sable Forks, NY.

Four USGS crews (8 staff members) from the Ithaca, NY office are making discharge measurements today for rating calibration. The approximate annual exceedence probability is 0.2 (<5-yr flood). All equipment is operating.
