Summary: Heavy rains ended on Monday and flows decreasing on the mainstem Truckee River while peak moving downstream along the Carson River
Heavy rains ended Monday morning in Western Nevada and the Sierra Nevada. Peak flows are moving downstream along the Carson River while decreasing along the Truckee River. Some flooding is still occurring in downstream, low-lying areas.
The Nevada Water Science Center has deployed 6 crews to continue measuring along the mainstem Carson and Truckee Rivers and flag high-water marks for indirect measurements. High-water marks are being quickly flagged due to upcoming storms. One gaging station has stopped operating, but has not yet been repaired due to poor access. Other than that, gaging stations have continued to operate well to collect good data throughout this event. One flow peak has reached a peak of a relatively short record. Annual exceedences are approximately in the 0.10 to 0.05 range for the area (10-20-year recurrence range). NVWSC is in communications with the National Weather Service and several local agencies in Reno, Carson, City, and other locations to provide needed measurement along with other stage and flow information.
