Summary: Rain and snow melt results in high water in Southern Oregon.
Today, several gages in Southwest Oregon are experiencing high water due to moderate to heavy rainfall, added by snow accumulations beginning to melt from low to high elevations. Precipitation is expected to continue across the region through next week, with the heaviest precipitation expected today through Wednesday. This precipitation, which adds to previous accumulations of rain and snow from last week’s storms, will increase the potential for floods and landslides. Currently, streamflow at numerous sites across the State are above the 95th percentile, with many of those streams predicted to peak and exceed flood or monitor stage Wednesday and Thursday.
The Oregon Water Science Center (ORWSC) currently has crews responding to this event. Staff from field offices in the following service areas are deployed for flood response: Central Point and Klamath Falls. More crews may deploy from additional offices over the next few days as this storm continues to bring precipitation that will result in flood conditions and record high stream-flows.
Updates will continue to be provided during the course of this event.
