Date: Wed, 12 Oct 2016 09:56:00 EDT

Summary: CFWSC staff complete recovery of Short Term Network water level sensors and High Water Marks.

The USGS Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center (CFWSC) deployed the USGS Short Term Network on Oct 5-6 along the Atlantic coast, before Hurricane Matthew approached the coast of Florida to monitor the timing, extent, and magnitude of the storm tide during the passage of the storm and in support of FEMA Mission Assignments. The deployment included 61 water level sensors, 17 barometers, and 3 Rapid Deployment Gages (RDG) along the east Florida coast from Miami to Jacksonville.

CFWSC staff completed recovery of Short Term Network water level sensors yesterday Oct. 11 along the Florida east coast. Yesterday (Oct 11) 1 crew (2 staff) set one GNSS benchmark. One sensor will not be recovered till next week due to high surf and safety issue. Three RDGs were recovered yesterday. 31 sensors were processed yesterday and 21 remain to be processed today.

All High Water Mark (HWM) flagging staff completed flagging of HWM's from St. Augustine to Jacksonville in northeast Florida and are now returning to the office. 44 HWMs were flagged yesterday Oct 11 (163 since Sunday Oct 9).

8 support staff in Davie, Orlando, and Tampa are continuing with planning and data processing.

Nine gages were damaged from Hurricane Matthew. Two steam gages remain down in the Orlando area. Staff will be assessing damage and attempting to bring gages back on-line today. 16 discharge measurements were made since Oct 8 (including 3 measurements for releases from Lake Okeechobee) to verify ratings.
