Summary: CFWSC staff continue recovery of Short Term Network water level sensors.
The USGS Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center (CFWSC) deployed the USGS Short Term Network on Oct 5-6 along the Atlantic coast, before Hurricane Matthew approached the coast of Florida to monitor the timing, extent, and magnitude of the storm tide during the passage of the storm and in support of FEMA Mission Assignments. The deployment included 61 water level sensors, 17 barometers, and 3 Rapid Deployment Gages (RDG) along the east Florida coast from Miami to Jacksonville.
4 CFWSC staff continued recovery of Short Term Network water level sensors today Oct. 11 along the Florida east coast. Yesterday (Oct 10) 18 sensors were recovered (77 since Saturday). One sensor will not be recover till next week due to high surf and safety issue. One BM remains to surveyed today. Three RDGs will be recovered today and shipped to North Carolina. In addition 14 staff continued flagging high water marks from St. Augustine to Jacksonville in northeast Florida. 95 HWMs were recovered yesterday Oct 10 (119 since Sunday Oct 9). 8 support staff in Davie, Orlando, and Tampa are assisting with planning and data processing.
Five steam gage remain down in the Orlando area. Staff will be assessing damage and attempting to bring gages back on-line today. Four additional discharge measurements being made today that remain moderately high from runoff, to verify ratings.
