PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) CFWSC staff respond to Hurricane Matthew

Summary: CFWSC staff continue recovery of Short Term Network water level sensors.

The USGS Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center (CFWSC) deployed the USGS Short Term Network on Oct 5-6 along the Atlantic coast, before Hurricane Matthew approached the coast of Florida, to monitor the timing, extent, and magnitude of the storm tide during the passage of the storm and in support of FEMA. The deployment included 61 water level sensors, 17 barometers, and 3 Rapid Deployment Gages (RDG) along the east Florida coast from Miami to Jacksonville.

25 CFWSC staff continued recovery of Short Term Network water level sensors today Oct. 9 along the Florida east coast. Yesterday 22 sensors were recovered. In addition 14 staff deployed to northeast Florida to begin flagging high water marks from St. Augustine to Jacksonville. 8 support staff in Davie, Orlando, and Tampa are assisting with planning and data processing.
