    <h1>PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (HI) Tropical Storm Madeline and Hurricane Lester</h1>

    <p>Summary: Tropical Storm Madeline caused some damage to the Island of Hawaii and Hurricane Lester is anticipated to have a much large impact to all of the Hawaiian Islands.</p>
    <p>Tropical storm Madeline passed to the south of the Island of Hawaii last night. 
<br>
USGS rain gauges recorded rainfall up to 10 inches which is not unusual for the
<br>
Hawaiian Islands. Peak streamflow annual exceedance probabilities were larger
<br>
 than 50%. Some minor flooding from high tide and tide surge was reported in Kapoho.
<br>

All eyes are now on Hurricane Lester which is forecast to pass through 
<br>
the Hawaiian Islands. The National Weather service reports wind and rain impacts will
<br>
begin Friday, September 2, 2016 and continue through Monday, September 5, 2016.
<br>

All but one real-time stream flow and rain gages are operational. USGS personnel are 
<br>
ready to mobilize as soon as it is safe to do so.  
<br>

<br>
The USGS has been in contact with the State and County emergency response agencies
<br>
and the National Weather Service.</p>
