Summary: Flooding continues across southern Louisiana
Waters continue to recede but three of the major river basins across south central Louisiana are still experiencing heavy flooding. 12 Stations have exceeded period of record levels in the past 6 days. 11 people have lost their lives in the flooding and 20 parishes (counties) have been declared federal disaster areas. 15 streamgages across the state have been damaged or destroyed. To date, 24 addtional discharge measurements have been made, 9 of the damaged gages have been repaired, and crews are prepping for 7 indirect discharge measurements in the coming days. The USGS has been in daily contact with local cooperators, the National Weather Service and River Forecast centers to give status updates on streamgages and coordinate flood response efforts.
