Summary: Record Flooding in Southeast Louisiana
Heavy rains continue to fall across southeast Louisiana causing record flooding throughout the Florida Parishes area. Rainfall totals have exceeded 20 inches in several areas with 1-2" still possible as the slow moving storm continues along a westerly track. Sites across the Tickfaw, Comite, Amite, Natalbany, and lower Tangipahoa basins have exceeded or are expected to exceed period of record levels. The Lower Mississippi Gulf Baton Rouge Office has dispatched 8 field staff and 1 office staff to manage the flood response. Field crews have had little success accessing streamgages due to flooded roadways across the area. Contact has been made with the National Weather Service, River Forecast Center, and local cooperators to give streamgage status updates as well as coordinate field response.
