PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (LA) Flooding in Southeast Louisiana

Summary: Rains in excess of 12 inches causing heavy flooding in southern Louisiana.

Heavy rains across southeast Louisiana are causing significant flooding across the Florida Parishes area. Rainfall totals are already as high as 12 inches with 6 to 8 inches predicted over the next 24 hours. Schools and roads throughout the area are closed as a result of flash flooding. Sites in the upper Tickfaw Basin have already exceeded period of record levels and sites throughout the Amite/Comite system are expected break period of record levels in the coming days. The Lower Mississippi Gulf Baton Rouge Office has dispatched 5 field staff and 2 office staff to manage the flood response. Multiple field crews are expected to work throughout the weekend to maintain the streamgage network. Contact has been made with the National Weather Service and River Forecast Center to give streamgage status updates as well as coordinate field response.
