    <p>Summary: Extreme rainfall associated with localized thunderstorm activity caused flash flooding in Ellicott City, MD and surrounding vicinity on the evening of Saturday, July 30, 2016</p>
    <p>Rainfall totaling up to 6 inches in a two-hour time period caused flash flooding in Ellicott City, MD and surrounding vicinity on the evening of Saturday, July 30, 2016.  Affected watersheds include portions of the Little Patuxent River, Patapsco River, and Gwynns Falls.

The USGS response continues on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 with deployment of four field crews (nine staff members) to collect crest-stage gage data and identify high-water marks at seven gages affected by the storm.  Data collected will be used to compute peak streamflows caused by the storm.

USGS has also requested access to the flooded areas of Ellicott City, MD to allow identification and documentation of high-water marks for use in future flood-risk management investigations for the region.</p>
