Summary: Minor to moderate flooding occurring in central and eastern Wyoming as a result of up to 6 inches of rainfall during past 48 hours.
Eastern Wyoming - Rainfall runoff in tributary watersheds to the North Platte River caused localized flooding in and near Casper, Wyoming resulting in occasional closure of I-25 as well as evacuations in a community to the east. Box Elder Creek (06647500) peak discharge was the 4th largest for the period of record (57 years; 0.10 < AEP < 0.04). The site will be discontinued effective July 1 2016 because of no partner funding.
Central Wyoming - Rainfall amounts up to 6 inches in 48 hours combined with snowmelt runoff is causing flooding in the Wind River basin. The hospital was evacuated and local disaster declaration has been issued for Lander, Wyoming. Wyoming National Guard has been deployed to the area. Little Wind River near Riverton (06235500) peak discharge was the 3rd largest for the period of record (76 years; 0.04 < AEP < 0.02).
Two crews were out Saturday and Sunday. Measurements (including checks) were made at 3 streamgages, defining some significant backwater shifts. Discharge measurements and control conditions were provided to NWS MBRFC (NWSChat), USACE, USBR, and a principal State cooperator.
