Summary: Significant rainfall across the state of Texas, especially along the Texas / Louisiana border, has resulted in persistent flooding.
Rainfall over the past 3 days across the State of Texas, with largest total accumulations along the Texas / Louisiana border, has resulted in significant runoff in the Sulphur, Cypress, and Sabine River Basins. Above average flows are also occurring in the Brazos, Trinity, San Jacinto, and Colorado River Basins.
7 crews were deployed to make discharge measurements and check gage operations; one temporary rapid-deployment gage was installed at the Sabine River nr Burkeville as the radar sensor is in danger of being submerged. Record releases from Toledo Bend Reservoir, in excess of 200,000 cfs, were made for approximately 30 hours, until they were lowered to approximately 190,000 cfs late this afternoon. National Weather Service flood forecasts predict near or above record peaks at three long-term gages on the lower Sabine River. USGS Crews are in position to measure the flood peak as it moves through this reach of the river.
USGS staff have coordinated with local and state cooperators, along with federal partners such as the National Weather Service and the Corps of Engineers.
