Summary: Significant flooding is continuing throughout East Texas as a result of heavy rains along the Texas / Louisiana border.
Flooding as a result of continued rainfall is continuing in Eastern Texas. Additional rain overnight has resulted in three day totals in the 3 to 6 inch range, with local amounts exceeding 15 inches. The largest rainfall amounts have been in the Sulphur, Cypress, and Sabine River basins. Current reservoir releases from Toledo Bend Reservoir are in excess of 200,000 cfs, which will cause significant flooding along the lower Sabine River.
6 crews are currently checking gages and making discharge measurements. Based on National Weather Service predictions, flood peaks at several sites are expected to exceed period of record flows.
Rapid Deployment Gages are available to replace any existing gages that are damaged. Plans are in place to continue measuring the floods and monitoring gage operations through the weekend.
USGS has been in contact with the Corps of Engineers, the National Weather Service, Sabine River Authority, and several other local and state partners.
