PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TX) Flooding in Texas

Date: Wed, 09 Mar 2016 17:29:30 EST

Summary: Widespread rainfall leading to runoff across the State of Texas.

A significant part of the Eastern Texas has been subject to rainfall over the past 24 hours, with widespread amounts of 1 to 2 inches and
more locally isolated accumulations of approximately 7 inches. Additional rainfall is expected overnight with more accumulation expected, especially in northeast Texas, along the Texas/Louisiana border.

USGS offices in Fort Worth, Austin, San Angelo, and Houston have responded to the event by making discharge measurements in the Brazos, Colorado, Trinity, Neches, Sulphur, Cypress, and Sabine River Basins. Currently, no gages have been damaged. To date, 8 field crews have made approximately 16 discharge measurements, as well as servicing automatic water samplers and other stage sensing devices.

So far, no significant flooding has occurred and interaction with cooperators has been minimal. If the rainfall that is predicted for tonight becomes significant additional measurements will be made and coordination with cooperators and local agencies will be increased accordingly.
