Summary: Minor flooding occurred in Alabama as a result of 2 to 5 inches of rainfall during last 24 hours.
Six crews (eleven hydrographers) from the USGS Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center - Tuscaloosa and Montgomery offices were deployed to measure discharge at selected streams in central and north Alabama on Wednesday, February 24. Some areas of Alabama received more than four inches of rainfall over a 24-hour period, resulting in minor flooding of many small to mid-sized streams in the state. High-flow discharge measurements were made at approximately 14 streamgage sites on Wednesday. High-water marks were flagged at one streamgage site for future indirect measurement. Three streamgages were reporting erroneous data due to equipment malfunction. One steamgage was repaired on Wednesday, and the other two streamgages will be visited on Thursday to troubleshoot and repair those equipment problems.
