Summary: A series of frontal storms are bringing rain and snow to the entire state of California during this week and continuing into next week.
Many coastal and inland valley areas of California are under flood advisory or flash-flood watch, including San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Coastal flooding and high surf advisories have also been issued for nearly all of coastal California. Winter storm warnings are in effect for higher elevation areas, including the Sierra Nevada and Southern California mountains. Parts of Southern California are expected to receive more than 3 inches by Thursday morning. These accumulations come after heavy rainfall on Tuesday caused major flooding in urban areas of Los Angeles and San Diego.
The California WSC has deployed 25 teams today from 6 of its 8 field offices to conduct high- and mid-flow measurements. So far, no streamgage damage has occurred from this event. Measurements have been coordinated with cooperators and other agencies, including the Army Corps of Engineers. Crews will be out again tomorrow as rainfall continues, rivers rise, and flooding occurs.
Media advisories have been issued inviting reporters to accompany field crews as they measure flooding tomorrow at station 11023000, SAN DIEGO R A FASHION VALLEY AT SAN DIEGO CA, and station 11160500, SAN LORENZO R A BIG TREES CA.
