PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MO) Widespread Missour Flooding Continues - National Guard Activated - State of Emergency

Summary: Flooding remains a concern across Missouri as major rivers and streams throughout the southern half of the State continue to rise into Major Flood Stage and reach/break record level crests.

Major rivers such as the Meramec, Gasconade, Missouri, and Mississippi are causing flooding concerns in Missouri leading to the majority of 222 road closings, 1034 power outages, and dozens of homes evacuated.

A total of 13 confirmed fatalities have been direct impacts of widespread flooding.

The Meramec river is forecasted to break river crests along with the potential in the lower Mississippi, both with period of record ranging from 74 to 112 years. Potential levee overtopping incident issued for the Meramec at Valley Park (population ~7000) this morning.

Total of 60 non-routine flood measurement have been made during this storm/flood, another 10 measurements scheduled to be made today by 7 crews (10 people). Gage station logistics extremely challenging due to widespread road closures.

18-20 period of record peaks occurring at USGS gaging stations throughout this event thus far. Total of (7) gaging station platforms damaged to some degree by this flood.
