Summary: Elevated streamflow and moderate flooding is occurring in Northern California as part of winter storm Ferguson that will continue to bring heavy accumulations of snow and rain to the region through Christmas day.
The USGS California Water Science Center has deployed 13 crews today in 5 service areas of Northern California in support high water data collection: 4 crews in the Sacramento service area; 3 crews in the Santa Cruz and Ukiah service areas; 2 crews in the Redding service area; and 1 crew in the Eureka service area. Several northern rivers are approaching stage-monitor levels, such as the Eel River at Scotia CA (11477000) with a discharge of over 121,000 cfs, and streams in recent wildfire burn areas are rising, such as the Northfork Calaveras River near Mokelumne CA (11307550) where stage has increased over 6 feet in the past 24 hours. Crews will also be out tomorrow measuring sites impacted by this storm system.
