Summary: Major flooding continues in western Washington but most rivers have crested.
Major flooding continued on Thursday, Dec. 10, in the Skokomish River basin on the Olympic Peninsula and the Snohomish River basin in central western Washington, but water levels are receding.
Minor to moderate flooding is ongoing in central western Washington (Snoqualmie River), southwestern Washington (Cowlitz and Chehalis Rivers) and eastern Washington (upper Yakima River). Water levels in the Snoqualmie and Cowlitz Rivers have crested and water levels in the Chehalis and Yakima Rivers are expected to crest on Friday, Dec. 11.
Nine USGS teams are making high-flow measurements today (Dec. 10) and are repairing one gage that is down and another that is malfunctioning.
Several major roads are closed due to washouts or landslides. Northbound I-5 is closed at milepost 23 (southwest Washington) due to a landslide.
Washington Governor Jay Inslee declared a State of Emergency on Wednesday, Dec. 9 (http://www.governor.wa.gov/news-media/gov-inslee-proclaims-state-emergency-following-series-severe-storms-across-washington) and the State Emergency Operations Center was activated.
