Summary: Flooding near Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille, ID
An atmospheric-river brought 3-5 inches of rain to northern Idaho. The mild temperatures and heavy rainfall has resulted in a dramatic melting of the snowpack causing minor to major flooding in the Pack River and Lightning Creek basins near Lake Pend Oreille affecting the communities of Sandpoint and surrounding areas. The high water has caused road washouts and lowland flooding. Precipitation is expected to reduce and temperatures to drop overnight causing the flooding stream systems to crest late tonight to early tomorrow morning. Two gages have potentially experience peak of record. Multiple crews are measuring affected streams and high flow measurements are being used to verify rating extensions and develop new ratings for the two streamgages. The USGS is in communication with NOAA to insure accurate collection of flood river stages and discharge. No damage to streamgages has occurred or expected from this event.
