Summary: An atmospheric-river event is causing major flooding in the Skokomish River basin on the Olympic Peninsula, with moderate to major flooding predicted for much of western Washington in the next one to two days.
An atmospheric-river event is bringing large amounts of rain to western Washington. This ongoing event thus far has led to major flooding in the Skokomish River basin on the Olympic Peninsula. Additional rivers throughout western Washington are expected to reach flood stage later today (Tuesday, Dec. 8). River levels are expected to crest at moderate to major flood levels in the next one to two days.
Six USGS teams are currently making high-flow measurements. All streamgages are operational.
