Date: Wed, 18 Nov 2015 19:34:02 EST

Summary: Flooding in western Washington has mostly peaked, with rivers in the central Puget Sound area still above major flood levels and the Chehalis River yet to peak at minor to moderate flood levels.

Flooding in western Washington mostly peaked today (Wednesday, Nov. 18), with water levels still rising in the Chehalis River basin and expected to crest at minor to moderate flood levels by tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 19.

In the central Puget Sound area, water levels in parts of the Snohomish and Snoqualmie River basins are above major flood levels and expected to be below flood stage by Thursday evening, Nov. 19.

Nine USGS crews measured high flows throughout western Washington today and also repaired three gages that had either stopped transmitting data or were transmitting unreliable data. In addition, three USGS crews measured high flows in southeastern Washington.

The USGS Washington Water Science Center is evaluating the need for surveying high-water marks in the Elwha River basin to estimate recent flood flows using indirect methods.
