Summary: Mostly minor to moderate flooding on the Olympic Peninsula and in the central-to-north Puget Sound area of western Washington.
An "atmospheric river" that reached western Washington late Thursday, Nov. 12, caused minor to moderate flooding on the Olympic Peninsula and in the central-to-north Puget Sound area on Friday, Nov. 13. Rivers on the Olympic Peninsula crested on Friday. Stage and turbidity sensors in the Elwha River above Lake Mills were damaged or lost and will be repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Three 2-person USGS crews measured high flows in the upper Nooksack, Skykomish, and Sauk Rivers on Friday.
The rains are ongoing and most rivers in the central-to-north Puget Sound area are expected to crest on Saturday, Nov. 14. Flood levels are expected to be minor to moderate, except for the Snohomish River where flood levels are expected to just reach major flood levels. Six 2-person USGS crews will measure high flows on Saturday in the Satsop and Elwha Rivers on the Olympic Peninsula and in the Nooksack, Stillaguamish, Snoqualmie, and Tolt Rivers in the Puget Sound area.
