Summary: Crews from USGS Continue Flood Documentation Effort as Flood Waters Recede in South Carolina.
USGS Crews from the South Atlantic WSC (SAWSC) deployed Rapid-Deployment Gages (RDGs) at critical flood-prone locations as part of a FEMA mission assignment. Starting at 1:30 pm on Friday, October 9th, a total of eleven RDGs were deployed at points along the South Carolina low country where flood waters were approaching their peaks. Deployment of the RDGs was completed within 25 hours and data streaming to NWS and FEMA shortly thereafter.
Additionally, USGS crews from have nearly completed the flagging of High-Water Marks (HWMs) across South Carolina. To date, almost 350 HWMs have been flagged. Focus was on the preservation of the HWMs before the rains came Friday evening. Crews now start the process of running elevations to each.
