Summary: USGS Crews Responding to Flooding Related to Hurricane Joaquin.
Three 2-person crews from the South Atlantic Water Science Center (SAWSC) - Raleigh office continue to deploy storm-tide/wave sensors and Rapid-Deployment Gages (RDGs) along the Outer Banks of North Carolina today. Additionally, 8 2-person field crews in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Asheville are making streamflow measurements and inspecting gages across North Carolina to document flood conditions caused by rainfall associated with Hurricane Joaquin.
Three 2-person crews from the SAWSC-Columbia Office are deploying sensors and an RDG in coastal riverine basins near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina today in preparation for runoff flooding expected by rainfall forecasts of 7+ inches of rain. An additional five 2-person crews will deploy on Saturday if QPF forecasts hold.
Fourteen 2-person crews from Georgia have been positioned in Asheville, NC, and various locations in South Carolina to support field operations in response to the rainfall forecasts.
Coordination of the field crews is being handled by leadership in Raleigh, Columbia, and Norcross offices.
