    <h1>PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (DE) Response to the coastal effects of Hurricane Joaquin</h1>

    <p>Summary: The forecast offshore passage of Hurricane Joaquin is anticipated to create surge and wave effects in the coastal and estuarine portions of Delaware.</p>
    <p>A major hurricane forecast to pass by offshore is forecast to affect the coastal and estuarine portions of Delaware. The Storm Team has been activated and daily conferences calls are being held at 0900 Eastern Time. Hurricane with intense waves predicted in the Atlantic, currently no damage or injuries have been reported. The areas with the most significant local impacts are the Atlantic Coast areas.  The USGS MD-DE-DC Water Science Center has dispatched 7 field staff to support data collection to characterize the effects of the storm surge in selected areas of coastal Delaware. In addition, one office staff is supporting the storm response. In total, 7 USGS states are responding to this event. Within Delaware, 22 storm-tide water level sensors, and 14 wave height and structure sensors have been deployed to record storm conditions. As of today, 0 high-water marks have been flagged with 0 surveyed into the elevations. 0 water quality samples have been collected in Delaware. Numerous contacts have been made with USGS and NWS storm-response officials.  These contacts were primarily to give instrumentation status updates and report staff safety status. 0 additional streamflow measurements have been made at the surface-water gages in Maryland. 0 streamgages have exceeded period of record highs.</p>
