PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (VA) Virginia-West Virginia Water Science Center Deploys Tide Monitors in Advance of Hurricane Joaquin and Responds to Inland Flooding

Summary: Hydrographers from the Virginia-West Virginia Water Science Center are deploying storm-tide monitors in advance of Hurricane Joaquin and responding to inland frontal flooding.

The Virginia-West Virginia Water Science Center is deploying storm-tide monitors in advance of Hurricane Joaquin in the Hampton Roads area and on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The deployment started today and will continue through Friday, October 2nd.

Staff also are responding to inland frontal flooding. Crews are making discharge measurements and collecting water-quality samples in response to NWS QPF forecast rainfall totals of 6-12 inches in central and southern Virginia. Resources from both Center States are being distributed to affected areas.

Coordination of field crews is being handled by leadership in the Richmond Field Office.
