PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MO) Flooding in Northern Missouri

Summary: Significant rainfall in Northern Missouri over the past week continuing to cause flooding and levee breaks.

Flooding has or is occurring in MO and is considered moderate. The areas with the most significant flooding at his time are central and northern Missouri. Presently there are numerous road closures, homes being evacuated and damages to property. The USGS MO Office has dispatched 8 field staff to support high water data collection. In addition, 1 office staff is supporting the flood response. Numerous contacts have been made with NWS and USACE. These contacts were primarily to give streamgage status updates and recent flood measurement numbers. At least 12 additional streamflow measurements will be made in the affected area today. 1 newer streamgage has exceeded previous period of record highs. Some peaks at streamgages rank in the top 5 for the period of record. One crew is set to flag high water marks in the towns of Edina and Winfield due to partial levee breaks or flash flooding causing numerous homes and businesses to be flooded.
