PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IL) Flooding in IL

Date: Wed, 17 Jun 2015 13:45:23 EDT

Summary: Moderate flooding occurring in Illinois

Flooding continues in Illinois after additional rainfall. The northern part of the State received about 4" of rain on Sunday and Monday, and the southern part of the State received about 4" of rain on Tuesday. No stations are currently in the NWS "Major Flooding" category, but around 15 are currently in the "Moderate Flooding", and many more are experiencing "Minor Flooding". Moisture from Tropical Storm Bill is expected to arrive over the central and southern portion of the State later this week.

The IL WSC has 5 crews (9 people) deployed to make discharge measurements. Twelve discharge measurements were made yesterday along with 4 gage inspections. One gage had a malfunction but has been repaired. Two water quality gages are experiencing issues, and we have plans to get them fixed. The IL WSC office continues to be in contact with the NWS Ohio River Forecast Center and the NWS North Central River Forecast Center to coordinate discharge measurements at affected forecast points. Coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and impacted local communities continues as well.
