PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (AR) Flood Measurements in Arkansas

Date: Wed, 27 May 2015 05:46:02 EDT

Summary: Crews in Arkansas measure floods on the Arkansas and Red Rivers.

Heavy rains in Texas, Oklahoma and western Arkansas are causing the Arkansas and Red Rivers to experience extremely high flows as well as some of the smaller inflow tributaries.

The Arkansas River is experiencing its fourth highest flows since regulation began in the 1970's. The Red River is equally as high. Local levees have topped in some areas along both rivers.

Several crews from Little Rock have been measuring the Arkansas River since the weekend and will continue making measurements as the peak moves downstream. The Red River is expected to crest in Arkansas later this week and the USGS will make measurements for LRUSACE and Vicksburg Corps throughout the peak.

Regular communication is being had with both Corps offices and the National Weather Service.
