Summary: Continued moderate to minor flooding in western South Dakota as the result of heavy rainfall Saturday and Sunday.
Flooding has or is occurring in SD and is considered MODERATE and MINOR. Heavy rainfall on Saturday into Sunday after snow and rain over the past two weeks left streams and rivers running high, higher releases from full reservoirs, and some sites above flood stage. Most of the flooding currently is in the Black Hills area as well as within the Bad River basin in west-central SD. The USGS SD Office has dispatched 9 field staff to support high water data collection. In addition, 1 office staff are supporting the flood response and one field staff is collecting storm runoff water quality sampling. Nine measurements have been made including 3 check measurements. One additional indirect peak flow will be determined. Approximately 13 measurements are planned for today.
