Summary: Minor to moderate flooding occurring after heavy overnight rainfall.
Heavy rainfall overnight across the central Ohio River Valley has caused minor to moderate flood conditions throughout northern and central portions of Kentucky. The Salt River and Kentucky River basins in particular are the most affected at this time.
Flash flooding has been the biggest problem, particularly in the Louisville area, prompting more than 100 water rescues across Jefferson County. There are 7 gages within the state that have exceeded their peak of record at this time. Most of those are smaller streams with the exception of one at Mt. Washington. At this time, all gages are working properly with the exception of one on Beargrass Creek where the acoustic unit is not reporting.
The Indiana-Kentucky Water Science Center has deployed 8 crews (17 people) at this time to make discharge measurements both in Kentucky and in the very southern portion of Indiana. So far, 21 measurements have been made with another 13 planned throughout the day.
Communication with other Federal, state, and local agencies is ongoing as needed.
