Summary: US Geological Survey monitoring elevated streamflows in Southeastern New Mexico following heavy rains in the Pecos River Basin near Carlsbad, NM.
Flooding and elevated streamflows have occurred in Southeastern New Mexico due to heavy rains within the Pecos River Basin near Carlsbad, NM. Rainfall amounts in the area during the past 24 hours range from 2 to 10 inches. The USGS New Mexico Water Science Center has dispatched 2 field crews to measure streamflows and repair damaged streamflow gages. Additionally, the USGS Texas Water Science Center has dispatched personnel to monitor streamflows in the Pecos River Basin within Texas. Correspondence with Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), New Mexico Office of the State Engineer, and Red Bluff Reservoir have been made for status and operations updates during the event.
