PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (HI) Tropical storm Iselle update - August 8, 2014

Summary: Heavy rainfall and high winds from hurricane/tropical storm Iselle result in power outages and property damag on the Island of Hawaii

Iselle made landfall as a hurricane early this morning and was weakened as it reached land.
Heavy rain and wind resulted in power outages for 17,200 customers. There are reports of property
damage including lost roofs and at least one house fire. Some localized flooding has also been
reported on the east side of the island. No fatalities have been reported.
Iselle is currently located south of the Island of Oahu and moving to the west.

Rainfall exceeded 14 inches in 24 hours at several locations on the east end of the Big Island.
Annual exceedance probabilities for Wailuku, Honolii, and Paauau Streams were between
20 and 50 percent. There has been no significant rainfall or high streamflow observed
on the other islands. No rainfall or stream gages were damaged or destroyed.
No USGS personnel were deployed because airports were closed on the Big Island.

Hurricane Julio is currently located 700 miles east of the Big Island and tracking
west-northwest direction. It is forecast to pass to the north of the Big Island Sunday
morning and Oahu early Monday morning with the possibility of high surf and heavy rainfall.
