Summary: The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Hilo area of the Island of Hawaii (Big Island) as hurricane Iselle has begun to make landfall.
Flooding is expected for all Hawaiian Islands through Saturday, August 8, 2014. The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory at 1600 hrs HST for the Hilo area of the Island of Hawaii (Big Island) as hurricane Iselle began to make landfall.
Government offices and schools will be closed state-wide on Friday, August 8, 2014. No field activities are planned until the brunt of the storm has passed and it is safe to deploy. Post-hurricane field priorities will be to repair real-time gages for the arrival of tropical storm Julio which is expected to arrive on Monday, August 11, 2014. High-water marks will be documented to the extent possible before Julio arrives.
The National Weather Service River Forecast Office and Hawaii State Civil Defense have been alerted to the shutdown and were give alternate contact phone numbers.
