PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (HI) Flooding on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii

Summary: Heavy rainfall from the remnants of tropical storm Wali resulted in flooding of several streams on the windward side of the Island of Oahu

Flooding occurred on the windward side of the Island of Oahu early Sunday morning, July 20, 2014.
Rainfall totals exceed 13 inches at several windward rain gages with intensities exceeding
4-inches per hour at times. Rain has stopped and streamflows have decreased significantly.
A flood watch issued from the National Weather Service remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday
for all of the Hawaii Islands.

Preliminary annual exceedance probability did not exceed 4-percent. The Kamehameha Highway
was closed between Hauula and Waikane. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
No stations were damaged or destroyed as a result of flooding.

No field crews were deployed because streamflows had dropped significantly by sunrise.
Field crews will be deployed if rain resumes.
