Summary: Continued flooding: Grand and Moreau Rivers - Western SD; Big Sioux and Vermillion Rivers - Eastern SD
Heavy rainfall continues across the State resulting in high flows in both eastern and western SD. Heavy rainfall on June 17 and 18 have results in flows above flood stage within the Grand and Moreau River basins.
Locally heavy rainfall from Jun 14-16 has resulted in the high flows on the lower Big Sioux and the new peak of record for the Big Sioux at Akron, IA. These flows have begun to decline however heavy rainfall on Jun 18 in the upper Big Sioux basin around Watertown. Flow are peaking in this area and will result in near-flood stage.
Vermillion River is rising and is expected to peak on Saturday or Sunday, slightly above flood stage.
High flows from the Vermillion, James, and Big Sioux are expected to cause localized flooding along the Missouri River. A RDG has been installed in the area of Dakota Dunes to assist in the monitoring of this localized Missouri River flooding.
Four crews are out measuring and documenting high flows: one in western SD, 3 in eastern SD. Measurements are being provided to interested parties include the NWS, COE, and state and local emergency management.
