Summary: Major flooding in southwest Alabama in the Mobile Bay area.
Torrential rains over the two-day period of April 29-30, 2014, produced record stage readings at several gaging stations in South Alabama, and destructive flash flooding.
A wide area of the southern portions of Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama and Escambia County, Florida recorded precipitation amounts ranging from 9 to over 20 inches during this event.
Three crews (total of six hydrographers)were dispatched from the Alabama Water Science Center today (Wed. April 30)to gaging stations in Mobile and Baldwin Counties to flag high water marks for future indirect computations of discharge, and/or make discharge measurements.
Preliminary data indicate that peak stages of record have been set at 4 gaging stations.
New records were set at:
02378170 Wolf Creek Below Foley (18.87 feet)
02378300 Magnolia River near Foley (18.15 feet)
02378500 Fish River near Silverhill (23.18 feet)
02376115 Elevenmile Creek near Pensacola, Florida (21.65 feet)
The new record stage at Elevenmile Creek exceeded the previous record by over 4.5 feet. Maximum stage at three of these stations exceeded the defined rating.
