PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Flooding in North Florida

Summary: Flooding is currently occurring in Pensacola and other northwest Florida towns.

Flooding is currently occurring in Pensacola and other northwest Florida towns. A USGS rainfall gage has recorded over 17 inches of rainfall over night and over 22 inches has been reported in Pensacola. Several sites are above Flood stage. One station is above the rating. Five stations rank in the top 3 of peak discharges for period of record. Preliminary flood peaks are ranging from <2% (50 year) recurrence interval to 5-10% (10-20 year) recurrence interval.

Four staff from our Tallahassee office are en-route to make flood measurements in the Pensacola and Milton areas. In addition the Suwanee River is also in flood stage. Six staff from Orlando are preparing to make flood measurements on the upper Suwanee river gages on Thursday.

A state of emergency as between declared by the governor. At least one death has been reported and heavy damage to homes and roads.
