PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MI) Flooding in Michigan

Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2014 09:26:47 EDT

Summary: Minor to major flooding is occurring in the central Lower Peninsula of Michigan

Minor to major flooding is continuing in the central part of the Lower Peninsula April 15-16. Heavy weekend rains, a very rapidly melting heavy snowpack, and warm temperatures have given way to wintry weather across Michigan on April 15. None the less, NWS river forecasts for several of the sites are expected to reach 1% to 0.5% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) peaks.

No injuries or deaths are none to be associated with the flooding. Most flooded areas are sparsely populated. At least four streamgages are now expected to peak above period of record in the following watersheds; Muskegon, Manistee, Boardman, and Tobacco.

No streamgages have been damaged to date, although one failed overnight.

USGS has deployed 7 hydrologic technicians comprising 5 crews to make measurements April 15. Measurements were made at 13 gages April 14. One crew has been dispatched to repair the failed gage this morning.
