PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IN) Continued flooding across Indiana

Summary: Flooding continues for a third day across southern and central Indiana.

Flooding across southern and central Indiana continues for a third straight day. After almost 3 straight days of steady rainfall flood waters are beginning to recede in smaller streams and rivers. The crest continues to move downstream along both forks of the White River and is expected to produce moderate flood levels as far south as Princeton.

Numerous road closures, evacuations, and water rescues were reported across the state but no loss of life at this time. 71 streamgages reached flood stage at some point over the past 3 days across the state. Despite an end to the majority of the rainfall yesterday, 44 streamgages remain at or above flood stage.

The USGS IN office has 3 crews (6 people) out in the field today making discharge measurements. There are also 2 support staff working in the office coordinating the field effort. Indiana Department of Natural Resources has been coordinating a plan for collecting high water marks around the state with the USGS in areas where peaks of record were reached late Sunday night and could not be measured directly. Measurement information has also been relayed to the NWS routinely each day to assist with forecasts.
