PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IN) Widespread flooding across southern Indiana

Summary: Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours producing minor to moderate flooding across Indiana.

Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has now moved out of Indiana to the east leaving minor to moderate flooding conditions across the southern half of the state. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported cumulative rainfall of 4-7 inches over the past 7 days across this area with the heaviest over the East Fork White basin.

Currently there are 63 gages reporting at or above flood stage throughout the state. Most of the gages in small to medium watersheds have already peaked or will do so later today. Larger rivers like the White and Wabash are forecast to peak over the next few days as the water makes it’s way towards the Ohio River.

The USGS IN office has two crews (4 people) out measuring discharge in the south central portion of the state and in the Ft. Wayne area. All gages are continuing to work properly. Field crews are relaying measurement information into the office as they get it for use by the NWS.
